Many years had passed since her disappearance, but she did not care. She was now a Darkling, of the Gravewight types (undead-like changelings with a connection to the dead and corpses, zombie or lich-like).Įventually, after wandering for what seemed (and was probably) an eternity, she found a secret pathway that led her back to the surface - to the Hedge and from then to the human world. She was imbued with this darkness and this stench, she became just as dirty and smelly as everything that surrounded her. For an incredible amount of time she wandered in this junkyard maze, far away from the light of the sun, surrounded by rot, decay and dust. Rotting food and human bones, mixed with worn-out shoes, broken mirrors, rusty automatons, statues of crystal, piles of mud and corroded jewels. Catacombs and tunnels filled with hundred of years of garbage and junk collected and thrown away by Ratatosk and other True Fae. Hopefully for Veruca, she was "spoiled" and thrown in the hole.īut this hole led to another gigantic, dark, smelly and dirty maze. Every day, Ratatosk would pick one girl, smell her and treat her like one of his nuts - if he feels she is "spoiled", he throws her down a hole in the ground if he feels she is good, he'll simply rip her apart and devour her.
#Changeling the lost 2nd edition update series
This beast was human-sized, with golden furs, and collected pretty little girls that he stored on the shelves of his strange burrow, a series of tunnels and caves with human furniture under the thick roots of a gigantic tree. She followed a pretty squirrel in the woods, and before she realized it, she was in the clutches of Ratatosk - a True Fae far from any depiction of the mythological squirrel. She also was taken as a young girl by the True Fae. Veruca Salt is another member of the Spring Court, from the same freehold as Augustus. But other changelings note that his behavior has something slightly desperate, as if he was still trying to find back the incredible flavors of the Smiling Mother's meals. He needs to quench and calm his fae hunger through enormous amount of foods. He is afraid of what he could do if he keeps staying near his parents house.Īugustus is a proud member of the Court of Spring. Last time, he couldn't control himself and he devoured his own dog.
He still lurks by his old house, spying on his parents, but his stomach keeps rumbling and his mouth still recalls the strange and marvelous spices of the Smiling Mother. Yet he has been in Arcadia for years, and he can't possibly go this parents and tell them that he's back. But now he is back to the world, and it has been only a few months since his disappearance, his parents are still searching for him everywhere. He was now an Ogre, of the Gristlegrinder variety (devourers with a taste for human flesh).Īugustus cannot remember how he got out of there, if he was helped or escaped on his own, if the Mother got tired of him or if she was too distracted one moment. Little Augustus became a big creature, bloated with fat, a mouth much too large for his face, with large and powerful teeth able to crush anything - even bones. So little Augustus grew up in this edible cottage, forced every day to eat his own weight in food both perfectly mundane and utterly abnormal - fruits and meats of strange colors and smells, and from time to time gory remains, the ones of those that stumbled in the Mother's gardens and were much too old to serve as her child. She was the Smiling Mother, who took children away to treat as her own, and a healthy children is a child well-fed. His Keeper looked almost identical to his mother - except for the wide smile, that was stitched on her face. Now locked in a house of gingerbread with a garden of candy, he was force-fed everyday a true feast. Once a regular, if quite greedy little boy, Augustus was lured away by one of the True Fae through supernatural treats and magical candies. Augustus Gloop could be the easiest to create out of all of them.
